rise!

disciples and Jesus
share passover meal
Judas betrays him—
kiss seals the deal

arrested, on trial
in kangaroo court
soldiers spit, hit,
crown him for sport

Pilate denies
hate crucifies
Messiah dies

tomb found empty
wondrous surprise
because he lives
we, too, will rise!

The day after Resurrection Sunday and linking a quadrille (44 words) for dVerse prompt using the word “rise”.

crumbling lady edifices crucifix

Dark-vowelled smoking columns aspire ruin

as dust-tongued, forested roof caves innavely;

water-spoken island surrenders to timbers

of flamed and lillified heaven-circling pyre.

Aghast of tragedy, fire-dwarfed gargoyles are

hearting a tear-culled Paris in hymnally tone

to dignify bell-voiced ash of towering ages;

above rubble, The King’s cross, power-gilded stands.

JOY of Light series ~ finale!

Completion of my series for retreat at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai….

light explodes in tomb

hallelujah, Christ arose!

all graves will empty

It’s the beginning of “passion week” for the church.  We will celebrate the death of Jesus for our salvation. Christ, the Lord of life and light, has the final word over death on Resurrection Sunday. He is my JOY!

mid-western disaster

Linking late to Linda’s “water” prompt at dVerse poetics

water, water, water, everywhere!
dark clouds broiling across plains’
hard-crusted snowy landscape; soil
soaked by heavy rains, washes into
half-frozen rivers, ice breaks loose
floating icebergs grind along banks
dragging down bridges, trees, poles;
pressured dam gives way into torrent
that floods downstream in spreading
wave that engulfs barns, farmhouses’
families escape on muddy roads while
cattle are trapped on shrinking islands
hay bales swept away, fields ruined and
Nebraska is once again a broad ocean…

snoopy as flying ace

the world war one
flying ace sits at a
table in local pub
drinking root beer

when the ominous
drone of an enemy air-
craft sounds overhead.

pulling down goggles
and wrapping on scarf,
he hops onto trusty
sopwith camel—

“curse you, red baron!”
