in haiku series Tags: breeze, grieve, humidity, summer
“Time Travel: Ancient Japanese Poetry” with Chèvre at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai
Even a breeze may fail me
When I desire it.
Little I should grieve,
If only, sure of its coming,
I could await even a breeze.
waka by Princess Kagami (7th century)
extreme summer
wrung out from humidity
even breeze feels hot

(Poem inspired by article at The High Calling & poetics “gift” prompt at dVerse.)
work is life gift
created to create
something productive
with whatever we have
stretch and hone abilities
promote one’s self-respect
provide for own desires
satisfy another’s need
give something back
to world we live in
joyfully serve six
actively rest one
weekly rhythm
work is life
…a gift!

on sidewalk
spitter – spat – spatter
on windowpane
beads drip
from
clothesline
baubles drop
from
leafed vine
gutters gurgle
cheerily
rivulets burble
merrily
umbrella unfolds
earthworm unholes
birdsong stills as
rain gauge fills
lightning tumbles
thunder rumbles
cloudburst pours
find shelter indoors!

in list poem, scripture Tags: flame, hope, petrichor, rain, swan, tomato
Sharing with dVerse…fits earlier prompts for list poem and sensory play.
hope smells
like fresh petrichor
of welcome spring rain
hope tastes
like first juicy tomato
of sun-ripened summer
hope sounds
like migration call
of swan o’er autumn field
hope feels
like flickering flame
of log in winter hearth
For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
(Romans 8:24-25 ESV)
