This simple poem reads like original McGuffey Reader style!
“TRY one small Bite,”
hissed snake to Eve;
By APPetite,
they were DeceiveD.
It was our FALL
when parents fell;
As rebels ALL
were Doomed to heLL.
Adam hid from God
in Guilt and Shame;
His Son walked sod,
JESUS, his Name.
His Mission here:
Be Reconciled,
relieve our FEAR,
make me God’s Child
By FAITH we can
know Love, hold Peace
and from our bond-
AGE find Release !

what? Melania’s shoes
give reporters the blues
stilettos don’t seem appropo
snakeskin fit for a dance
paired with high-water pants
to flood zone high heels must NOT go!
aboard air force one
news reports come undone
the fashion disaster rehearsed
first lady “trumps” style
and i can’t help but smile
when FLOTUS deplanes in Converse 😉

Weekend writing challenge on “gratitude” with Sammi Cox
For undulations of the hills
for desert, daisies, daffodils
for love’s sweet longing family fills
God give us grateful hearts.
For grass to grow, mow everywhere
for pizza, pickles, peach and pear
for every breath we breathe of air
God give us grateful hearts.
For hiking, biking mountain steep
for swimming, surfing oceans deep
for every day our lives you keep
God give us grateful hearts.
For puppies, kittens, goldfish, frogs
for horses, cows, and baconed hogs
for reading books and writing blogs
God give us grateful hearts.

formed of elements
found in dirt
humble dust
on torn tee shirt
patient farmer
works fertile soil
all year harvesting
hope for toil
plant every spring,
gather in fall
watch crops grow
green, all stand tall
by sweat of brow
coax life from sod
till soul returns
to soil’s God.

When i began this blog 5 Mays ago, i did not realize today is designated annual “Poem in Your Pocket Day” by The League of Canadian Poets and Academy of American Poets! How cool is that? Here’s a pocket-sized poem for the occasion.
a fresh poem
home-grown in
fertile loam of
heart’s dark tome
let thoughts roam
new ideas phloem
seeded, weeded, and
(hopefully) read(ed)
whether new haiku
or favorite sonnet
remember
to carry a
poem in
your pocket!

fog stretches fingers between wooded hills
low mist finds, finds, finds
story lines, lines, lines
legends of sightings persist near beaver bend
where our minds, minds, minds
notice signs, signs, signs

Wroclaw, Poland – photo by kim
nights razzle city
lights dazzle pretty
merry Christmastide
fairy carriage ride
trees displayed there
seen in market square
river shines reflection
mirrors celebration
dragon in fountain
shadow of mountain
steeple tickles sky
people trickle by
carolers swell song
cathedral bells gong
haze glows of gaslight
maze lit til midnight

my garden is…
a nurturing place
rejuvenating space
my garden grows…
green food for health
veggies’ bountiful wealth
my garden knows…
thorn pricks can hurt
worms benefit dirt
my garden shows…
shoes track in mud
fingernails collect crud
my garden flows…
slime trails of slugs
bees’ honeyed hugs
my garden hoes…
weeds will NOT win
squeaks windmill spin
my garden chose…
to raise leafy praise
for long summer days

earth’s richest
black prairie sod
iowa: “beautiful land”
created by God
claimed by man
wrested from dakota hand
busted, homesteaded,
settled, plowed and
tightly fenced now
as livestock farmers
raise calves from cows
how long sustainable?
dust bowl-like shroud
wind so untamable
we’re losing ground!
*Title from a favorite Bob Dylan song…he recently received a Nobel Peace Prize. (One good thing about a wet fall this year is less dirt in the air.)
