Response to a recent prompt by Kim at dVerse to relate oneself to one of Aristotle’s four elements: fire, wind, water, or earth. I expand on the meaning of my name…

“lynn”…
neutral name
naturally
views both sides
from stone wall
of english glen
greening…
dew droplets
gather
on lavender
bloom of heather…
refreshing stream
bubbles and
smooths stones
along way to
spill over rocky
mountain
ledge into fresh
waterfall
of cooling
laughter…
deep pool below
hidden in
rainbows
of soft mist.

unexpected text
for last minute plans
an early birthday surprise
with (old!) college roommates
meet at local bakery
we choose a cozy table
for friendliest conversation
(loud!) laughter and warm drinks
try yesterday’s special
raspberry chai latte, please
she adds dutch windmill cookie
and i (inheritance!) treat with cash
plans to meet again might involve (high!) tea
Perhaps the shape resembles a cake or 3 scones piled on plate? Inspired by “Poet Laura” (a.k.a. Karen Paul Holmes at TweetSpeak Poetry.

yes, growing older
but not “elderly” yet
in fact, feeling bolder
with new friends i’ve met
make statement of fashion
wearing purple and red
deep colors of passion
circle hats upon heads
fun club for ten lassies
monthly travels around
visit places quite classy
while laughter abounds
we live and we learn
shop & dine as an art
the education we earn
keeps brain cells smart
if you see us round town
please give us a smile
we’re the happy red hatters
“live-out-loud” is our style!

Dedicated to my “sister” friend, Joyce, who recently let go of her mother’s hands…
strong women’s hands
shape my life and yours:
grandmas instill faith
aunts stitch laughter
sister friends en-courage
mothers mold hearts.
even if we can no longer
touch those dear hands,
we still hear the voices
of influence cheering us
on like birdsong
in a garden of grace.
Invited by Marina to write poem including words important to us/we are thankful for, on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of dVerse Poets
