“Aye, glen eyrie…
valley of eagles’s nest,”
spoken by scottish landscaper
adopted by american railroad tycoon
as name for estate & manor
dream designed for cherished “queen”
nestled within rocky mountains
stone garden of the gods
she suffered heart attack
never lived in her castle

salt of the earth
faithful steward of the soil
guardian of God’s garden
patiently waits for harvest
impatiently wrestles with weather
muscular and tanned from
carrying wet calves
throwing dry bales
created from dust with
dirt under his fingernails
…to dust someday must return
A quadrille of 44 words on the theme of “earth”.

Quadrilles (44 words) “in a box” served by De at dVerse poets’ pub!
Dad must have eaten
too many sandwiches
packed in cold lunch pail
over fifty working years
Probably seen enough
bologna to last another
fifty, sliced bread spread
in days before microwaves
Retirement home’s
elegant menu choices,
Sunday buffet brunch…
contrast supper’s disappointing
box lunch!

“if it doesn’t have a tail,
it’s an ape.” – veggietales
does that mean we are
living on planet of apes?
evolutionary theory puzzles
over missing links
missing, non-existent,
pieces to puzzle
genesis one is epic poem
worth pondering
i believe God creates
beginnings!
We’re doing “puzzle” quadrilles with Mish at dVerse poets pub this week 😀

world of poets
online experience rich
blogger friends
a tapestry stitch
poetic minds wander like seven year itch
often words flow
without a hitch
but some prompts
induce writer’s glitch
while various sites
may bait and switch,
d’Verse welcomes all to find their niche!

teen-age male on
testosterone
in search of new
thrills-on-wheels
dreams of motorcycle;
engine roar combines
with speed’s blur…
wind-in-face freedom.
middle-age parents
experience concern,
envision fragile-ness
of life-and-limb;
postpone possibility
until son leaves family nest…
Forty-four word quadrille for “cycle” prompt at dVerse Poets this week…

Current events quadrille for the Nicaraguan people…and dVerse!
Nicaraguans are

taking it to the streets;
cobblestone city streets,
paved with “somoza” stones
of past dictatorships;
socialism promised
justice but in reality
cobbled the people
who’ve had enough
of corruption and
being lorded over by
self-serving politicians
who bury citizens
under bureaucracy.

Kim at dVerse Poets hosts “rain” quadrille (44 words) prompt this week…
mist hangs thin veil
covers landscape,
shrouds horizon.
sky heavy with humidity
air’s mood presses in,
mildly claustrophobic;
when clouds cannot rain.
hair hangs thick veil
covers face,
shrouds emotion.
heart heavy with futility
mind’s mood presses in,
wildly claustrophobic;
when tears cannot reign.

A quadrille muddle at dVerse Poets pub this week…
it’s chores time on our family farm
calves gathered in a huddle
to vaccinate from microbe harm
we chase them, catch ‘n cuddle
sometimes the work goes like a charm
sometimes the herd’s befuddled
calves vs. farmers by the barn
in an unlucky, mucky muddle!

Lillian “gathers” poets to write quadrilles at dVerse this week…
Gather
for instruction
in synagogue
teacher sits down,
unrolls scripture scroll
“I have come”
Gather
for confrontation
in street
demon-possessed boy
falls, foams, rolls on ground
“Evil be gone.”
Gather
for healing
in home
lame man stands, rolls up mat
“You’re made whole.”

De at dVerse challenges us to write a quadrille (44 words) with a little “zip” in it!
hey, bae, it’s okay
take poetic time-out
creative juice surf’s up
let your imagination
go zip-lining!
paintbrush crush
colour your wourld
kiwi lime and cyanberry
don’t refrain
your right(eous) brain
from livin’ life out loud
make magnetic magic
taste tangy tangerine
whee feelin’ gigglee!

you may
call me egg-head
for trying to write a
spring quadrille of eggs
-actly forty-four words (now
you know that forty-four counts
as one word, right?) and also for
making this poem egg-shaped,
(simply eggs-ceptional) just
don’t egg me on to pen
more yolks!
Kim hosts an “egg” quadrille prompt for dVerse Poets this week before Easter…
