______________
You left me here, frozen in time on a barren planet. It’s colder in your absence, yet life keeps spinning with no fixed lunar calendar. Grief’s comet cycles round as it crosses into my orbit in ever lengthening, less frequent ellipses. I ponder memorable views as it burns across thin atmosphere.
Now I play the sun in others’ galaxy; these bright planets circle me with their many moons. I smile warmly at them as they pass, holding them in my gravity. I wonder if they realize I’m a slowly dying star; building up sufficient heat to explode brilliantly when the time comes.
angry fire burns from careless spark of offense which touches off flammable pride’s fuel and emotionally charred words are stirred until warmest relationship is reduced to ashes
why not hold love’s only extinguisher (forgiveness under pressure) and douse arson’s conflagration before it’s too late?
Sarah’s chosen theme for quadrille Monday at dVerse Poets is “ashes to ashes”… check out the link!
angels illuminate this holy night
wreath of candles on table flickers bright
white lights twinkle from pine branches in snow
winter moon on velvet night sheds soft glow
joyful gleam in children’s eyes wait to see
shimmering garlands encircle the tree
carolers who sing under lamp post’s glare
gather near fire’s hearth with stories to share
each window mirrors shining stars’ array
celebrate light of the world born today
Decided to expand it for smoother reading out loud…at our Christmas Eve service!
As angels illuminated this holy night,
we light wreath of candles flickering bright.
White lights twinkle from pine branches in snow,
winter moon on velvet night sheds softer glow.
Joyful gleam in child’s eyes waiting to see
shimmering tinsel garlands encircle the tree.
Carolers, who sing under lamp post’s glare,
will gather near fire’s hearth with stories to share.
Each window reflects a star pointing the way
as we celebrate the Light of the World today!
Chevrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai hosts haiku/troiku prompt. He gifts us with first line: “when every gust of wind.” Each stanza of troiku begins with next line from original haiku.
when every gust of wind
fans bright flames of fire higher
smoke and ashes whirl
________
when every gust of wind
exhales crackles, sizzles, pops
wood door comes unhinged
fans bright flames of fire
higher heat of inferno
old shed roof crumbles
smoke and ashes whirl
choking billows engulf all
inhale acrid breath
